Further to the answer to question No. 3676 (Hansard, 3 August 2004, page 31958), can he explain why the Government does not fund the Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation?
Mr Downer (Minister for Foreign Affairs) —The answer to the honourable member's question is as follows:
The Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO) is associated with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), which is gazetted as a terrorist organisation in Australia. Given this association, the Australian Government has not funded TRO development programs.
